Lions are members of Lions Clubs International, a community service organisation dedicated to the idea that the men and women who live in a community are in the best position to know who needs help and why. Meeting Report 4th December 2008
The December meeting of the Fishguard & Goodwick Lions was opened with vice-president, Lion David Heywood in the chair.  Lion David was pleased to report that President Dave Race was progressing well after his operation and had arrived home from London within the last hour.  The club wished him a speedy recuperation
Lion David again recalled a busy month for the club.  The club's first Craft Fair in Fishguard Town Hall was a great success, thanks to Lion Julie and all the visitors who attended and the sponsor On the Road School of Motoring.  Lions attended and laid wreaths at both the Fishguard and Goodwick Remembrance Services.  Lion Mike's Bingo evening in Goodwick sports club and Lion Jessie's Fish & Chip supper were both well attended and enjoyed by all.  Lions were also busy on the last Friday and Saturday of the month when Santa came for the turning on of the new Christmas Lights to large crowds.  Santa will return on Monday 8 - 11 December for his visit to hear what Children would like for Christmas,
The treasurer, Lion Myra was asked to write cheques to several Local groups who had not yet contacted the club: - Fishguard Senior Citizens, The Royal British Legion, Fishguard & Goodwick Play Groups, Hillside League of Friends, Wintern, and the Gateway Club.  Please remember that the Lions would like to hear from any group that would like to be considered for support, or in order to bring a worthy cause to our attention. 
Details of several forthcoming events were discussed: - the clubs Christmas parties, a Chinese Dinner in Cardigan oganised by Lion Lai in aid of charity to celebrate the Chine New Year, Lion Mike's St David's Day Concert on 21st March.  Lion Joe discussed the Meals on Wheels rota.
The meeting was closed with Lion David proposing the toast to Lions Clubs International.

Lions 9th Fun Day a Huge success
What a wonderful day for the 9th Fishguard & Goodwick Lions Fun Day.  The sun shone and the crowds came to make it possibly the best day yet. 

The 7am start by the Lions ensured that everything was ready for the arrival of the stalls, voluntary organisations and children’s entertainment.  The usual early morning health & safety check of the area confirmed that everything was fine for the event and thanks are due to Fishguard & Goodwick Town Council and Pembrokeshire County Council for their help in ensuring the car park was available and free from parked Lorries. 

Music was provided by local groups; All Spice, Night Life and the Goodwick Junior Brass Band.  A very big thank you is due for excellent performances in very warm conditions.  Further entertainment, provided by the Fishguard & Goodwick Line Dancers was enjoyed by an appreciative audience. Looking around there were lots of happy children’s faces to be seen, the Donkeys, Bouncy Slide and Fun House seemed particularly busy, while the workshops of Buzz and Circus Malarky also drew the crowds. 

The Lions ‘Name the Lion’ contest was won by Cloe Lewis from Goodwick with the name Ralf and the Groceries were also won by another Goodwick resident, Mrs Maureen Maddocks.  The £100 Lucky Programme draw went to W Hughes of Wolfscastle. 

The Lions are most appreciative and would like to thank everyone who helped or supported the event.

Lions 9th Anniversary Charter Dinner
Fishguard & Goodwick Lions celebrated the Ninth Anniversary of their charter with a dinner dance at the Fishguard Bay Hotel on Saturday 7th June.  The evening was the climax of a successful year for the club’s president Lion John Jones and saw a record 105 Lions and friends participating.
Joining Lion John and his wife Lion Susanna on the top table were , president-elect Lion David Race and his wife Lion Babs, district governor, Lion Ron Clarke and his wife Doris, Fishguard & Goodwick Mayor, Dai Williams and Mayoress Julie Williams.
After the formalities, Lion John handed over to the incoming president, Lion Dave Race who was delighted to return their missing Lion mascot to Lion Dave Westrop of Haverfordwest Lions, together with an invoice for expenses in caring for said mascot while he toured the UK.   A great evening was completed with a excellent music of Night Life.
