Lions visit Malta
Fishguard & Goodwick Lions took a break from raising money for the local community when a party of 16 Lions used their own cash to visit Malta in the run up to Easter. The occasion was an international social meeting and seminar organised by the Sliema Lions Club of Malta. The long journey started 9.30 Friday evening in the Mini-Bus, thanks to the Sea Cadets, plus the Lions trailer loaded with luggage. On Saturday evening, the Lions celebrated the 70th birthday of a Lion, cllr. Mike Lloyd with a surprise party. The Sliema Club had arranged a great Welcome Reception and it was a very sociable evening meeting with Lions from Italy, Bulgaria and Germany. The week continued to this high standard, with our Lions having a fantastic time on the tours, enjoying the historic buildings and many many churches with their ‘Vari’ statues on display depicting the Passion of Christ, concluding with a grandstand view of the procession of the statues around town. The final day, Easter Saturday saw the exchange of banners by Lion President John Jones, who gave a presentation at the seminar, and a great time at the Farewell Dinner.
